Free College Admissions Essays: MIT :: College Admissions Essays
MIT Admissions Essay à I may seem to be someone with many unconnected facets and talents once you have read all the other essays on this application. This essay is intended to slap together a few of the pieces of myself that I have displayed here. à The human race is immortal ( that was a doozy wasn't it ). There is nothing that forces us to decay into old age and die, this is merely our body destroying itself once our purpose ( reproduction ) is complete. Evolution not only did not bother to select against genes that kill off people past 40, but to some degree selected for such genes: the faster we go through generations, the faster we evolve. If the genes that cause the changes we associate with old age were suppressed in some chemical way, we would be capable of eternal life. Another way to immortality would involve the building of a biomechanical body of some sort, something right out of a Terminator movie, that would support the brain with only the chemicals necessary to survival ( if we could determine which those are ) and thus avoid the effect of aging genes. All of this genetic, biochemical and hydraulic research would be based on knowledge gained in college. One other thing: we've all heard of cults that claim they hav e discovered immortality in some way, which supposedly have members who've lived 200 years. If there's even a shred of truth in any of that, my guess is that these 200-year veterans have managed to order their minds in some way ( through some arcane style of thinking perhaps ) that erased the biological clock. à All in all, immortality is only one small thing that humans might be capable of. The strange abilities seen in autistic people, like incredible number crunching speed, really are not unique to autistic people. These abilities are buried deep in everyone's subconscious, and it is just a matter of our minds letting us use them or not. In fact, I think that along with those mathematical abilities are buried many more abilities. I feel sure that among them is perfect coordination, and there might be some really strange psychic or time-related abilities as well. The subconscious is driven by its creator, evolution. It is only concerned with reproduction. Evolution has erected a barrier between ourselves and our potential, and lets ability seep through to those who have desirable traits and are intended to reproduce.

Division/Classification Essay: Three types of children Essay
Anyone who has spent time with or around children will notice that each one has a special personality all of their own. Children, like adults, have different traits that make up their personalities. Experts have researched this phenomenon in detail and classified children into different categories. The three categories that most experts agree with have been named ââ¬Å"flexible,â⬠ââ¬Å"fearful,â⬠and ââ¬Å"feisty.â⬠Children generally may have similar interests, but the way they interact and deal with these interests displays their personality type. The first personality type is called flexible. This is the most common of the three types. About 40 percent of all children fall into the flexible or easy group. These children usually handle feelings of anger and disappointment by reacting mildly upset. This does not mean that they do not feel mad or disappointed, they just choose to react mildly. These actions mean the flexible child is easy to take care of and be around. They usually adapt to new situations and activities quickly, are toilet-trained easily, and are generally cheerful. Flexible children are subtle in their need for attention. Rather than yelling and demanding it, they will slowly and politely let their caregiver know about the need. If they do not get the attention right away, they seldom make a fuss. They patiently wait, but they still make it known that they need the attention. These children also are easygoing, so routines like feeding and napping are regular. The next temperament is the fearful type. These are the more quiet and shy children. This makes up about 15 percent of children. They adapt slowly to new environments and take longer than flexible children when warming up to things. When presented with a new environment, fearful children often cling to something or someone familiar. Whether it is the main caregiver or a material object such as a blanket, the fearful child will cling to it until they feel comfortable with the new situation. This can result in a deep attachment of the child to a particular caregiver or object. Fearful children may also withdraw when pushed into a new situation too quickly. They may also withdraw when other children are jumping into a new project or situation they are not comfortable with. These children may tend to play alone rather than with a group. The third temperament type is called feisty. About 10 percent of children fit into this category. A feisty child expresses their opinions in a very intense way. Whether they are happy or mad, everyone around them will know how they feel. These children remain active most of the time, and this causes them to be very aggressive. Feisty children often have the tendency to have a negative persistence and will go on and on nagging, whining and negotiating if there is something they particularly want. Unlike flexible children, feisty children are irregular in their napping and feeding times, but they do not adapt well to changes in their routines. They get used to things and wonââ¬â¢t give them up. Anything out of the ordinary could send them into some type of fit. If these children are not warned of a change, they may react very negatively. Feisty children also tend to be very sensitive to their surrounding environment. As a result, they may have strong reactions to their surroundings. Generally speaking, children can be divided into three groups, but caregivers must not forget that each child is an individual. Children may have the traits of all three of the personality groups, but they are categorized into the one they are most like. Whatever their temperament, children need to be treated according to their individual needs. When these needs are met appropriately the child will be happier, and those around the child will feel better also. Knowing the general personality types and how to react to them will help to make the caregiverââ¬â¢s job much easier and aid in the relief of unnecessary stress.

Vote of Thanks
A blazing start paves the way for surefire success. This also applies for the hugely anticipated annual inter school extravaganza LA Fest. A yearly conclave that causes sparks to fly as the titans from rival clans face off for a fight to the finish. Wars have been waged on this very stage . The ethereal aura has passed but has not dimmed in the slightest. On the contrary it shines more radiantly in the light from the new dawn that is breaking. We had a very auspicious beginning under the aegis of Dr. Soorya Krishnamoorthy . the initiator of the much lauded and immensely popular Soorya Festival. He needs no more introduction. I , on behalf of the entire Loyola fraternity profusely our C G for having spared his time. I invite Rev. Fr. K P Mathew to present the memento to Dr. Soorya Krishnamoorthy as a token of our gratitude. I proceed to thank the backbone of all our ventures here at Loyola , our principal Fr. K P Mathew ably assisted by our vice principals Fr. Devassy Paul and Fr. Antu Xavier. What is a party without guests ? Similarly what is a LA Fest sans the presence of the participating schools ? International Trade Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words
International Trade - Essay Example Up course it not new phenomena, instead similar strategies have been pursued by countries from the past few years (1). Countries were taking steps to reduce trade barriers such as tariffs to encourage trade, and opening their markets to the world and gain maximum advantage of it. If we go through the modern history, we can see that there was a shift in world trading system among bilateralism, regionalism and multilateralism. In the late 19th and the early 20th century, there was a dominance of bilateral trading system as the trade agreements were negotiated on a bilateral basis between individual countries. Such activities were initiated by England in the 1860s and 1870s as it pushed its trading partners to sign trade agreements. But, after Second World War, trade at multilateral and regional level was gained importance in place of bilateral system. During the period 1940-1990, multilateral trade system gets importance as more and more nations joined the GATT or its successor, the WT O. But, in contrast post 1990 period once again witnessed the dominance of bilateralism which is dubbed as the failure of WTO negotiations at the 1999 Seattle ministerial conference. In addition, regional trade agreements were also gets importance during the period (2). ... ountervailing duties, taxes, environmental, health and safety certification requirements, duties, anti dumping measures, laws, quotas, customs, and licensees are the main hurdles in the way of international trade. Generally, these trade barriers were necessary for countries to protect domestic producers from foreign competition. But, in modern years, international organisations such as WTO were introduced several measures for improving free trade, and as a result the role played by tariffs in international trade has been declined. World Trade Organisation, which came in place of General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) generally, deals with regulation of trade between the participating countries. Countries are using barriers in these days to evade free trade rules framed by international trade agreements such as WTO, North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), or European Union (EU) as they restrict the use of tariffs. Moreover, usage of these barriers in international trade ha s been raised sharply after the WTO rules led to a very significant reduction in tariff use. Sometimes countries voluntarily restrict imports of goods from outside as a safe guarding measure in limiting the competition that domestic industries have to face from the imported goods. Some times it is a retaliation technique for countries in case they think that a trading partner has not played by the rules. Many a timeââ¬â¢s governments intervened in international trade to safe guard their national security. Generally, almost all countries arranged their defence system from military attack and they cannot leave it to the private sector as the national security is a public issue. So, this is a major issue for any country, and taken into account whenever it starts trade with other trade barriers

Criminal Jusitice. The Criminal Justice System Process Research Paper
Criminal Jusitice. The Criminal Justice System Process - Research Paper Example Authorities mentioned that Phelps Collins got inside through some help from one of his friends and a brother to the owner of the townhouse. However, detectives did not expressly draw a clear connection between the staged break-in and the previous stabbing of Robert Wone. However, homicide detectives were looking into the burglary with the zeal of uncovering various potential leads. Wone was stabbed at the chest as he was visiting friends at the same home on the edge of Dupont Circle along the 1500 block of Swann Street NW. New details relating to the burglary later emerged through a number of interviews conducted much later (Klein &Schwartzman, 2006). Testimonies and court papers from a hearing for Collins the following week at D.C. Superior Court were also sources of information. Collins was later arrested on a burglary charge. Police maintained that Collins confessed to them that that Michael Price, the friend, had provided him with a key to the contended house as it belonged to Jo e Price, his brother. Police also added that Collins said that Michael Price was responsible for turning off the alarm immediately the two men broke into the house where electronics worth $7,700 were stolen. Case presented At the time, Michael Price was not yet charged in the burglary and he was not located to provide any comments. After the staged break-in, the detectives proceeded to the nearby pawnshops where they found two DVD players, an audio system among other stolen goods which led them all the way to Collins. In Calvert Street NW, the police found one of the CD changers as they searched the Collins's home. Collins had sold most of the other stolen items along the street for drugs or money, as the authorities speculated. A lawyer at one of the Washington firms, Joe Price, told police that he was not aware that Collins had done it even though he had heard the same through his brother (Klein &Schwartzman, 2006). This is according to information that was sourced from an affidavit the police filed after getting the search warrant for the residence of Collins. Joe Price also mentioned to the police that the brother was known to engage in drug abuse as well as hanging out with diverse subjects who we re adversely mentioned in drug usage on a frequent basis. Price directed the police to the fact that he did not avail permission to neither his brother nor Collins of entering his house and removing and later selling his property as stated in the affidavit. His public defender did not comment. Up to the point of the break-in, police expressed considerable doubt on the intruder theory. This is because there lacked an express sign of forced entry as the killer used a kitchen knife. Further, the crime scene seemed to be cleaned prior to the arrival of the officers as recounted by the police. Investigators convened a grand jury as well as enlisting the integral help of the respective departments of the FBI within the homicide. They also sought to keep high levels of control for the $1.2 million houses across several weeks after the killing while removing flooring, a chunk of the staircase, pieces of walls, sink traps and the washing machine searching for blood as well as any other evide nce (Klein &Schwartzman, 2006). Collins, who was at the time unemployed, had a criminal history which included four drug convictions between the years of 1998 and 2004 in the Montgomery and District as shown by the records. Authorities mentioned that most of the items taken from the burglary turned up at Pawnbrokers on 14th Street NW at Sam's residence which was only a few blocks away. The manager at the store, Sam Levy, said that Collins had previously pawned

Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) - Assignment Example This paper aims to identify major causes of CVD and key steps in CVD management from cohort study designs, as well as to develop leading questions on CVD mitigation for the local health department. Moreover, the paper will also present a rudimentary protocol for disseminating CVD information to local community leaders, while also making recommendations for prevention of CVD in the workplace. There are numerous causes and risk factors of CVD with some like age, ethnicity, and family history being non-modifiable, while others can be changed or treated, such as hypertension, tobacco exposure, physical inactivity, obesity, high cholesterol, harmful alcohol use, and unhealthy diets. Berry et al (2012) found that hypertension is a significant cause for CVD, especially stroke and heart attacks, while abnormal lipid levels in blood including low levels of HDL cholesterol, high levels of LDL, high triglyceride levels, and high total cholesterol also cause CVD, especially stroke and heart attack. In addition, Huxley and Woodward (2011) also find that the use of tobacco over a long time, whether by smoking or chewing it, increases an individual risk of developing CVD, especially where one began to smoke as a young person, is a woman, or smokes very heavily. It was also found that passive smoking causes CVD. Physical inactivity and type 2 diabetes mellitus are identified by Appleto n et al (2013) as major causes of CVD with the former increasing CVD risk by 50% by increasing risk of obesity and subsequent diabetes that, in turn, predisposes individuals to strokes and coronary heart diseases especially in pre-menopausal women. Finally, Van Dierren et al (2012) find that diets with high fat saturation increase CVD risk, while abuse of alcohol damages heart muscle and subsequent CVD and specific medicines like hormone replacement therapy and contraceptive pills
